Following Instagram‘s long-awaited release of five new filters back in December, the popular social media app is back with even more, and is planning on regularly adding more in the near future. The app has gone long periods of time without new additions — the last filter update came after two years — and the app is clearly challenging third-party photo editing applications such as VSCO Cam that have surged in popularity. The two new filters introduced today are more subtle than the app’s original lineup, mimicking vintage film filters that have become more popular. Of course, with the advancement in quality of mobile photos, filters no longer need to hide as many shortcomings, and the simpler filters leave much more of the photo intact. While we await more filters to Instagram’s toolbox, the app has also introduced the ability to hashtag emojis, which will definitely spruce up our caption game. Source: THE VERGE
